One of the world’s more ancient, revered sports, the history of boxing is prevalently evident in the evolution of gloves. Absolutely necessary for fairness and relative safety, the art and skill of boxing using specialist gloves is estimated to make the sport 184 times less dangerous than bare-knuckle fighting. Boxing gloves were made mandatory in 1867 by the Marquess of Queensbury.

Tennis rackets were entirely made from gut string and wood until 1968, when Spalding’s first light-weight, aluminium-alloy racket was released, changing the sport forever.
