This fine large family hatchment is presented in a wooden surround. Hand painted oil on wood, depicting a family crest. C1920
The wording Tout Pour Dieu Et Par Dieu meeting “All For God Or By God” and surrounding Obiit “Died” Junii “Young” and the shield with 3 shamrock or trefoil is more common, is the symbol of the Christian trinity and Ireland.
A funerary hatchment is a depiction within a black lozenge – shaped frame, generally on a black (sable) background, of a deceased’s heraldic achievement, that is to say the escutcheon showing the arms, together with the crest and supporters of his family or person.
This Hatchment is in superb condition and displays very well. A great statement piece for any home or as a shop display.
