Large GPO Wicker Postal Trolly (SOLD)

A Superb Large Wicker GPO Postal Trolly. This fabulous, woven wicker trolley sits on industrial wheels, made from wicker with a vellum trim and side panels, these were covered with vellum (pigs skin) to give strength and stability to the basket and prevent wear and tear, making them extremely durable, this would have been used on a daily basis. C1910

These trollies were originally used by the General Post Office to move letters and parcels. Believed to have been in use from 1910 onwards, it’s a piece of English Post Office history! 

The basket is still very strong and study, with a lovely honey colour to the wicker, the wheels work as they should, the trolly remains in original condition, there is wear and tear due to the age of this piece, but does not affect it in any way. This trolly would make a beautiful log basket, shop display, blanket basket, toy box or just a great interior design piece. (Internal Dimensions: H: 61.5cm W: 104cm D: 56cm)
