A Large Superb Oak Eagle Lectern, a beautifully hand carved heraldic style eagle sculpture. This piece would be Ideal for the collectors of rare and stylish church antiques. A highly decorative object, this particular sculpture has a marvellous colour/patina and a majestic look and feel.  The condition of this lectern os beautiful, lovely detailing and great wear for its age. Saint John the Evangelist (author of the fourth gospel account and the book of Revelation) is symbolised by an eagle, this Stand almost certainly refers to him. The royal eagle is a fitting symbol for Saint John the Evangelist, for the eagle is known for grace, strength, keenness of vision and powers of flight above all creatures. Christian scholars believe the eagle is capable of looking straight into the sun.
