A Very Rare and Superb Antique Japanese leather Kendo mask, with leather & iron mesh. A lovely colour to the leather, original filling & lining, the stand is included to showcase this piece of sporting history. C1900

Kendo originated from the experiences of the samurai who trained to use “nihonto” (Japanese swords) in combat. The samurai thereby acquired a distinctive appreciation of the “principles of the sword”. It is believed that through learning kendo one is able to gain an understanding of the “principles of the sword”.

Excellent condition, wear consistent with age & use.
