Vintage galvanised dolly tub with soap dish. Made from galvanised steel, with its ribbed side and a soap dish to the top, the makers label is on the front and the base inside has the makers name ‘Bowling’ stamped on the base. C1940

Dolly tubs were used over a 150 years ago in England for hand-washing clothes and linens before washing machines were available to the average household. The original dolly tubs were made of wood with iron banding; galvanised tubs, which were much lighter and easier to clean, were introduced in the late 1800s. Today these tubs make great planters for small trees or shrubs or storage bins for an assortment of items.
